Dear Parents, welcome to the Year 1 Page.
Please remember every day your child must bring:
* Water bottle with their name on
* Pencil case - including pencil, rubber, pencil crayons, pencil sharpener, ruler
* Folder - including their planner. Letters returned can be left in here for their teacher
* Reading log and reading book- please read with your child each night and write a comment in their reading log.
During the the week of 15 - 19 January 2017 NBA will be enjoying Science Week which will conclude on Thursday the 19th of January with a Science Fair. Students will bring in their projects and present them to teachers and their fellow classmates. Students are to select one project to complete at home. They can select one of the attached projects or they can choose their own project/investigation. Students must conduct an investigation with a focus on the scientific method. Some ideas have been attached and may be used. Students are responsible for gathering their own materials at home and all the work must be done at home. The document attached will help with the investigation and how to present the information gathered. We are not allowing volcanoes and mentos and coke demonstrations. All Science Fair projects must be brought to school on the 19th of January. Students will also enjoy a variety of different activities during the week.

Information on the week ahead in Year 1 15th January 2017
– This week the children will be looking at Contemporary fiction, stories reflecting children’s own experiences. We will be focusing on the story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’.
– This week the children will be looking at number bonds of 6,7,8 and 10. They will also be using them in some word problems.
– This week is Science week and the children will be taking part in different activities and experiments. Throughout the week lots of fun things will be happening around the school and the all children will have the chance to dress up as a crazy scientist on Thursday for the Science Fair.
– Please ensure children wear the correct PE uniform to school. All jewelry and earrings must be removed.
– Here they will get a chance to look at the school library books and take one home for the week. They must be returned each week on their library session.
Any other information:
A water bottle and hat must be brought to school each day. Each should be clearly labelled with their name and class.
If your child wishes to be a part of the Science Fayre on the 19
of January, please return the participation slip to their class teacher.
All participants must bring their work for the fair in on Thursday morning. Don’t forget to dress up!
All children should dress up as a crazy scientist on Thursday.

For additional, optional learning the children have access to a great interactive website called Active Learn. They can log on at home using a tablet or computer and complete different activities like reading stories, maths games and phonics games.
This is an optional activity that you can use and is not part of their homework.

Children should bring and give the ICT homework to the ICT teacher when they have ICT.

Your child has been assigned a spelling group and you can find this group name in their planner.
Please print off their word list and practice at home. The next test will be on
Thursday the 12th of January.
The spelling test will be every Thursday and results will be written in the school planner.
Spelling sheets do not need to be returned to class teachers, they can be kept at home to help children to practice. Thank you.
