Welcome back Year 2.

The first change is the spellings. We have now split the children into two different groups - Moons and Stars. Your child would have been told during school which group they are in. Please only download and complete the correct set of spellings - they will be tested on their group spellings every Thursday.

The second change is the homework groups. Your child has been given a new homework group of 3 colours Purple, Blue and Pink.
Your child will have been told this during school. Please download and follow your child's group ONLY. Instructions for each group will be above each task.

Reading books – this year we will be using our new reading program ‘Bug Club’ as well as our other reading scheme… Please use this to practice your comprehension skills ready for the end of term reading assessment.

Your class teacher will tell children which group they are in. They must learn those spellings for the weekly spelling test and complete the sentences. Make sure they include interesting adjectives, connectives and check for spelling mistakes.

This week in English we have been learning about the features of Non-Fiction texts. We have been learning how to describe the character of Blackbeard using suitable adjectives.

We have also found out different facts about Blackbeard and we have included them into a Non-Fiction text.


For homework you must complete the fact file template. Use the information provided to find relevant information about Blackbeard and record it correctly.

This term, we will be setting homework online using Active Learn

Your child will be given a username and password to enter the site along with the schools code which is: twkc. The site is case sensitive so please use capital letters if it tells you to do so. The website works on laptops, PCs and tablets using Chrome instead of Internet Explorer. If you have any problems accessing the site, please contact your class teacher as soon as possible so they can fix any issues.

3D Shapes and their properties.

This week in mathematics students have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. They have compared 2D and 3D shapes and identified what 2D shapes make up the faces on 3D objects.

We have also identified everyday 3D shapes As well as this students have been counting and recording the number of edges, faces, and vertices of 3D shapes and tested if the shape rolls and stacks.

Pink Group

Children must cut out the shape and match it to the correct word. Children must then find the 4 everyday objects that are the same as a 3D shape. Example Cuboid = Shoebox





Blue Group

Children must answer question relating to the properties of 3D shapes. They must find the number of edges, faces and vertices as well as state if it rolls and stacks.


Example Cuboid, faces = 6, edges = 12, vertices 8, rolls = no, stacks = yes.






Purple Group

Purple Group: Children must answer questions about 3D shapes. For example how many faces, what 2D shapes make up the faces of the 3D shape, they must also draw the faces of the 3D shape. Then, children must look at the 2D nets and be able to identify what 3D shapes they makes.

Changing Materials

This Term in science we have started a new topic CHANGING MATERIALS. In this topic we will look at the properties of materials and find out more about man-made or natural objects.
